Photoelectric sensors / retro-reflective sensors

Emitter (S) and receiver (E) are in the same housing. The emitted infrared or red light is reflected by a triple prism reflector back to the sensor. When an object interrupts the light beam (no light received), the output state is changed.

Advantages:

	Easy mounting
	Object detection independent of color or surface properties

Only one orientation of the polarized emitted light passes through the polarization filter. The light is rotated and depolarized after reflection from a triple prism. Only part of this reflected light is able to pass through the second polarization filter in front of the receiver.




When a shiny target breaks the beam, it reflects the light without changing the plane of polarization and the light is not seen by the receiver. In this manner, the receiver can distinguish between light received from a shiny object and light received when the beam is unbroken.
