Universal Pump Monitor Prevents Pump Failures

A new Pump Monitor provides a simple pump protection solution to the prevention of pump damage caused by jamming, cavitation or dry running. The Universal pump monitor (Model PM-50) , requires only a two wire connection to the pump electrical supply to provide adjustable high and low power trips. The sensitivity of the low power trip used to detect cavitation, dry running is up to ten times more sensitive than that of conventional undercurrent relays.

The use of patented Hall Effect Technology eliminates the need for current transformers, making the system very easy to set up and install. A high power trip is provided for the detection of jammed impellers or blocked outlets and a low power trip provides detection of no flow conditions such as loss of prime. The Pump Monitor is compatible with motors ranging in size from 150W single phase to 75kW three phase, operating on supplies from 120V to 415V AC.

A convenient display of the true power drawn by the pump drive motor is shown on the power sensors integral multi function meter. Both start-up and trip delay timers are included to prevent nuisance tripping. The unit is suited to a wide range of applications where pump failure or loss of flow must be detected. Although primarily aimed at protecting seal-less or magnetic drive pumps, it has uses in the water treatment, chemical, oil, gas and food industries protecting a wide range of pumps.
