The New (UPC) Universal Power Cell (power transducer) manufactured by Load Controls Inc is a unique Hall
Effect power sensor designed specifically for
process monitoring & control where drives may be fitted, to cope with the most difficult
of motor load sensing tasks, when other CT based
power sensors are unable to function reliably due to limitations
in bandwidth and sensitivity. This power sensor is a motor load sensor that
monitors electrical power (HP or kW). It works on both 3 phase AC fixed
frequency and variable frequency power and has 2 analogue
outputs. It also works on single phase AC, DC and brush less DC.
The (UPC) Universal Power Cell transducer has 3 balanced Hall Effect devices,
each with a flux concentrator. Each of the 3 phases passes
through a window. A voltage sample for each phase is also taken.
The Hall Effect semiconductor does a vector multiplication of the
current flow and voltage which also calculates the power factor.
The output is proportional to power (HP or kW).
With the (UPC) Universal Power Cell transducer, the control of many process machines such as
grinders, mills, mixers, rollers, pumps, compressors etc may be
improved by sensing power instead of current. The UPC measures
accurately (0.5%) true electrical power and performs
exceptionally well in applications on the output
of variable frequency or inverter drives.
The (UPC)Universal power cell transducer does not use external CT's or transformers and its
full scale range is conveniently adjusted with course & fine
pots to accommodate any motor size up to 120KW. The Universal Power Cell
Transducer is
particularly suited to mixer process end point
detection where by measuring the power drawn by
stirrer or paddle drives, it is sensitive enough to detect minute
viscosity changes.
A FAST RESPONSE version (UPC-FR) is
available for machine tool and grinding applications or where an really fast
response is required.
Installation of the power transducer is simple since you don't need to wrestle with
external voltage and current transformers. This also saves on
installation costs. If you require set points and relay control
outputs, we can supply suitable options. Also, to complement the power sensor a number of digital
process indicators and panel meters are available allowing accurate monitoring of
load signal (0-100%), instantaneous true power (kW) or
accumulated true power ( kWh).
