Programmable colour sensor

A compact and cost effective solution for colour recognition in industrial applications is now available from sensing specialist Vydas International Marketing.

Most sensors are colour blind although colours play an increasingly important role in today's manufacturing and processing procedures. Many sensors can distinguish between contrasts, light and dark and matte and gloss. But when the detection of a specific colour becomes the primary requirement, the sensors find their limitations.

However, LOGIPAL III colour sensors, manufactured by Baumer Electric are able to detect the finest nuances in colour. The colour sensors in the Series 22 compare a taught colour with the colours that follow in a split second and pass on the matching factor to the control unit through a digital output. The unbeatable compactness of the LOGIPAL III sensors allows a professional problem free installation even in extremely restricted spaces in your machines or plants.

An excellent example of the practical application of self-teach technology is demonstrated in Baumer electric's Colour Sensor. The human eye has limitations in recognising subtle differences in colour. By pressing a single button the Colour Sensor can teach itself four colours with each colour's tolerance being set up separately.

Self-teach enables faster and often more accurate set up. Other innovations such as a visible spot assist in aligning the sensor to target and a rotating plug has also been incorporated for the first time in this compact product. Baumer's colour sensor operates perfectly even when artificial or fluctuating lighting falsify the colours and at high speeds when only a fraction of a second is available for determining the colour. Its response time is only 300 microseconds.

Scanning distance is 40mm and colour recognition can be triggered externally. Compact zinc housing of 50x50x23 mm ensures that this is an ideal solution for confined conditions.

Baumer's colour sensor is protected to IP67, has short circuit protection on all the four electrical output channels and has reverse polarity protection. It can operate over a temperature range of –10 to +55 degrees C.

Colour recognition systems have become an integral part of industrial manufacturing.
